About tungsten carbide

What is tungsten carbide?

Q:

A:

Tungsten carbide is commonly known as carbide.

It's tungsten combine with other metals, metal material primarily composed of tungsten.

Because its feature is high temperature resistance. <The melting point can reach over 2000℃>

Resist abrasion <Hardness can reach 90~93HRA>.

High proportion, molds, cutting tools and machine resist abrasion parts used in the manufacturing industry.

Is the tungsten carbide better than other steel?

Q:

A:

The user needs to confirm the workpiece condition and abrasion of the product to judge.

Example: If appear not resist abrasion, can change tungsten carbide products to test.

What’s the tungsten carbide's fault?

Q:

A:

Tungsten carbide due to physical properties is high hardness and high proportion feature causing impact, strength and fracture toughness all lower than steel.

Therefore, it have to based on actual using situation to choose the grade of tungsten carbide.

Is tungsten carbide having magnetic?

Q:

A:

Tungsten element itself is non-magnetic.

But other elements in tungsten carbide cause weak magnetic situation.

If usage conditions required,  so can customized elements, then remove the magnetic.

Example: The tool for producing magnetic materials or vibration processing procedure situation.

Need to choose non-magnetic tungsten carbide.

Tungsten carbide can resist corrosion?

Q:

A:

Tungsten carbide products use tungsten as the main body.

Therefore, the corrosion resistance is better than the most steel products.

But if stay long time in an acidic environment, it still will appear dissolution.

So change the material setting is depends on actual demand to improve corrosion resistance.

Tungsten Carbide can resist high temperature ?

Q:

A:

Tungsten carbide is based on carbide, then add other metal elements.
The carbide is high melting point element 3422.
We find the tungsten carbide has no significant change of its feature when it exposed to under than 800°C temperatures in the short time after experiment by ourselves.

Tungsten carbide products need to process?

Q:

A:

Tungsten carbide formed by powder molding and then sintering at high temperature.

Therefore, it can't be precise dimensions after the sintering process procedure.

If the product size error acceptable is above 1%,

Then can use it after doing the easily remove oxide layer surface.

If the tolerance required less than 0.05mm of product size.

So it needs to do precision machining before using.

What's the processing way of carbide?

Q:

A:

Due to the high hardness feature of tungsten carbide.

So it not suit for common turning and milling way.

Usually process by grinding and electric current.

So the processing equipment and processing parameters have to choose the suitable method to process.

What is pre-sintering shaping processing?

Q:

A:

Due to the tungsten carbide hardness is too high, not easy to process.

So it need to grind for long time.

Our company can shape processing before the final HIP sintering.

Can shorten much finish machining time and reduce the processing cost.

What are the CIP and HIP?

Q:

A:

CIP-It means that powder molding using gas to average pressurize the pressed product.

To achieve uniform density and precise dimensions.

HIP- It means the product using gas to average pressurize the pressed product during the sintering processing.

To achieve product compactness quality and remove porosity.

Improve product strength and physical properties.

Our company has CIP and HIP equipment, can ensure the product quality stable.

What is carbide alloy?

Q:

A:

We use carbide as main material, and then add few metals adhesive that combine alloy material to reach high density feature. (16.5-19.0 g/cm³)
